It is with deep regret that the Bar Council informs members of the death of Beverley Hooper on 8 March 2022 at the age of 89 years.

Family, friends, and colleagues are invited to attend a private service to celebrate the life of Beverley Hooper to be held in the Renowden Chapel, Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Princess Hwy on Tuesday 12 April at 1:30 pm.

Following will be a private cremation. No flowers by request.

The ceremony will be live-streamed and available to watch on the Supreme Court website here.

A welcome sitting to mark the appointment of His Honour Judge Tiwana will be held in Ceremonial Courtroom 3.3, of the County Court of Victoria, Level 3, 250 William Street, Melbourne on:

The Governor-General in Council has appointed the Hon Justice Timothy McEvoy as a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia in the Victorian registry, commencing on 26 April 2022.

Details of the welcome ceremony will be advised when they become known.

The Bar Council is calling for expressions of interest from members interested in serving on the newly established Practice Development Committee for the 2022 term.

The Supreme Court of Victoria will host a retrospective welcome ceremony for Justice Gorton on Tuesday, 8 March 2022 9:15am. 

While attendance is by invitation only, the ceremony can be watched via live stream and a recording will be made available after the event. Further details are on the Supreme Court's website.

Justice Gorton was appointed to the Trial Division on 15 December 2020. However, the Court has been unable to host in-person welcome ceremonies due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Today marks the first of the retrospective welcome ceremonies for the judicial officers who were appointed to the Supreme Court during the pandemic. The first ceremony will take place for Justice Delany. 

This is an invitation-only event to enable the Court to hold the event in a COVIDSafe way. The ceremony will begin at 9:15am this morning and will be live-streamed from the Supreme Court website.

Gerald Lewis QC passed away in the early hours of the morning on 26 February 2022. He was 75 years old. Gerald was a scrupulously fair, yet formidable advocate and a much-loved member of the Victorian Bar.
