Rodney Garratt took silk in 1996 and has a wide practice substantially in arbitration, equity, trade practices, commercial law, land law and intellectual property. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He practises throughout Australia at trial and appellate level. He is a member of Lincoln’s Inn.
Rodney appeared in the leading Australian arbitration cases of Castel Electronics Pty Ltd v TCL Air Conditioner (Zhongshan) Co Ltd and Van der Garde BV v Sauber Motorsport AG. In Castel he conducted the successful arbitration for Castel, and successfully opposed the application to set aside the award in the Federal Court. Rodney had the carriage of the High Court proceeding up to the hearing. In Sauber Rodney appeared for the racing team at first instance and on appeal.

Rodney signed the Bar roll in 1983. He originally graduated in 1976 with the degrees of B Juris (Hons) and LLB (Hons) from the University of Western Australia, after which he completed the Bar exams in London and practised for a year in chambers in the Temple. Rodney worked as a commercial solicitor at Mallesons from 1980 to 1983. Since 1995 Rodney acts as mediator from time to time.
