Peter Chadwick KC has practised extensively in all criminal jurisdictions in Victoria as well as interstate for more than forty years.
He is an effective and experienced advocate in criminal trials in the Supreme and County Courts for both the prosecution and the defence. He also appears in the Court of Appeal for both the prosecution and the defence.
He accepts briefs in the Magistrates’ Court for committal hearings and summary contests as well as the Coroners Courts and corruption inquiries.
Peter holds an Indictable Crime Certificate and is a member of the VLA Preferred Barrister List. He has also undertaken cultural awareness training under the guidance of Kellawan Indigenous Consultants.
Peter has a particular interest in forensic science and his expertise in its practical application in criminal proceedings, notably where DNA evidence is material, is well regarded.
He is an active member of forensic science professional associations and regularly gives lectures on forensic science topics.
Peter is President of the Medico Legal Society of Victoria and a committee member of the Australian Academy of Forensic Science. He is also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Forensic Science Society and the International Association of Prosecutors.
Peter is a member of the Victorian Bar Council. He is the Chair of the Victorian Bar Counsel Committee. From 2013 to 2022 Peter was a member of the Victorian Bar Ethics Committee serving as Deputy Chair and Chair.
