Peter Hannan holds B. Juris and
LLB. degrees from the University of Western Australia. After leaving university
he worked as an articled clerk with McCusker & Harmer in Perth. Peter was
admitted to practice in Western Australia in December 1991 and in Federal Courts
in January 1992. He remained with McCusker & Harmer until October 1992 before
joining Mony De Kerloy where he remained until October 1995. During this period
Peter practiced mainly in the areas of commercial litigation, insolvency,
administrative law and industrial relations. Whilst a solicitor he appeared
before the Full Court of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the Full
Court of the Federal Court. Both cases were without a leader and were reported.
In October 1995 Peter commenced practice
as a barrister at the Perth Independent Bar from what is now Francis Burt
Chambers. His main areas of practice were and remain commercial litigation,
banking and finance, property, equity, insolvency, bankruptcy, industrial
relations and administrative/constitutional law. Much of Peter's appearance work
at the Perth Bar was in the Practice Court of the Supreme and District Courts
and before various appeal courts (the Full Court and appeals to single judges of
the Supreme and District Courts). Peter also carried on an extensive pleading
and opinion practice. During that time he appeared interstate in federal matters
and as junior counsel before the High Court. Cases which Peter has argued have
been reported in the Western Australian Reports, the Australian Law Reports, and
the specialist company and administrative law series. Peter was admitted to practice in Victoria
in February 1999 and signed the Victorian Bar Roll in November 1999. He is now
an interstate member of the Western Australian Bar Association but maintains a
Western Australian practice.
